The Civil Engineering Department of the Institute has produced so many technocrats who are serving the country as well as successfully settled in abroad. The department has been involved with so many research works and produced some excellent outcome. The department is presently associated different developing activities as well as innovation of construction materials. Some of the faculty members are coordinating different technical bodies of the state, Tripura and the region. The department presently acting as the State Referal Institute (SRI) for Water Quality Monitoring of the state. The department is acting as State Technical Agency(STA), Tripura constituted by National Rural Road Development Agency (NRRDA), New Delhi for scrutiny of the Detail Project Report (DPR) of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). The department is also acting as the State Resource Institute for Earth Quake and Disaster Mitigation and Management of the state.
Department Of Production Engineering
Production Engineering Department of National Institute Of Technology Agartala offers an undergraduate programme in Production Engineering where students are encouraged to acquire knowledge facilities with an integrated thinking about education research & development, production and training. The students are provided knowledge to understand the fundamental of basic sciences and humanities, inter disciplinary knowledge, innovation, creative and problem solving abilities, intellectual honest and professional ethics, capacity for team work in inter disciplinary, national and international environment. It also helps the students to understand society, culture and global processes. The department helps to induce entrepreneurship interest in students. The Department of Production Engineering was formed in 2005. The first undergraduate batch rolled out in the year 2009.
Department Of Chemical Engineering
The department of Chemical Engineering has been set up in the academic year of 2009-10 with sanctioned intake capacity of 30(thirty) students in the undergraduate level. The B.Tech degree for the first batch of students would be awarded in 2013. The department is still in its infancy and proper planning has been taken to make it a full-fleged department with in a year or two, in terms of faculty members as well as infrastructure.
Department Of Mathematics
The Mathematics Department is old as (NIT Agartala in 2006, formerly Tripura Engineering College) itself a venerable forty six years of age, established in 1965. It has always believed in striving for excellence in research and teaching and has succeeded in this endeavor to a large extent. Growing steadily, today the department not only teaches Mathematics to under graduate students of different Engineering Branches but recently the department its has also started two years M.Sc. degree course (Mathematics) in which admission is made through merit basis with an initial intake capacity of 10 students. A syllabus revision workshop has been organized by the Department, for up gradation of UG-syllabus and course structure / syllabus for M.Sc. programme to make a significant contribution to research and development in Mathematics.
The Department has highly qualified faculty members consisting of two Associate Professors, three Assistant Professors, and three Teaching Assistant. In their pursuit of research the faculty members have covered a vast area such as operation research, fuzzy Topology, Fuzzy dynamic programming, Fuzzy decision Making, Mathematical and computational Biology, Bio-informatics.
The entire teaching faculty is actively engaged in research in their respective fields, and innumerable research papers are being published in various journals of repute. More than six research scholars have been pursuing their research work in their respective fields.
Department Of Humanities & Social Sciences
The ultimate objective of any education system is to produce human capital who will be responsible citizen, besides excelling in his/her own domain. To produce a complete technocrat, only technical knowledge seldom serves the purpose. He/She has to be socially aware with a compassionate human faculty. The Department of Humanities & Social Sciences was established with an objective of making an engineer enlightened with adequate knowledge of his/her surroundings. The approach of the Department has always been interdisciplinary. The Department offers undergraduate courses in Economics, Costings, Management Principles and Communicative Skill Development. Besides that, it encourages the students to actively take up research in various fields of Humanities and Social Sciences. The Ph.D programme of the Department is introduced to serve that very purpose.
Department Of Physics
The Physics Department is as old as NIT Agartala (NITA in 2006, formerly Tripura Engineering College) itself – a venerable forty five years of age, established in 1965. Since then, the mandate of the Department is to conduct teaching courses for students of engineering disciplines and conduct interdisciplinary studies, especially with engineering departments. The faculty members are engaged in rendering the engineering undergraduates with the fundamental knowledge of physics and problem solving skills, requisite for a bright career, and striving tirelessly to improve the education further. Thus the old syllabus of engineering physics has been recently revised and updated. Presently the department provides the theoretical and laboratory courses of engineering physics to 1st, 2nd semesters of engineering undergraduates (B.Tech) and Material Science to the 4th semester engineering undergraduates of Electrical, Electronics and Communication branches.
Over the years the Department has evolved into State’s and region’s premier engineering physics teaching institution and now takes pride to introduce a postgraduate programme in physics where students will be encouraged to acquire knowledge along with integrated thinking about education and research in physics. We look forward to begin the 4 semester master degree programme (M.Sc) in physics soon with an initial intake capacity of 10 students. A new syllabus and course structure has been designed for the same to make significant contributions to research and development in physics. This unique course structure blends all that is best in the areas of contemporary and applied physics to create post-graduates who are equally comfortable with science and technology.
The department has a vibrant research program in various frontline areas of research, in addition to the present undergraduate and proposed post-graduate programmes. Recently three research scholars have been admitted in NITA and presently they are working on cutting edge topics, within the major thrust areas of:
- Non-Linear Optics & Photonics
- Experimental & theoretical Condensed Matter Physics
- Plasma Physics
Adept faculty members ensure the best possible research work for our research scholars engaged in respective fields of research. Many optional modules can be introduced from the research topics to feed the projects that will be offered for 3rd and/or 4th semester science post-graduate students involving and introducing them to the department’s advanced research alongside academics.
Department Of Chemistry
Department was started since the inception of the Institute. It has sufficient infrastructure to run the under graduate and post graduate courses. Faculty members of the Department are actively engaged in both teaching and Research work. Along with the B.Tech classes, MSc. program is also going to start from this current semester. PhD program has already started from this year. Institute Post doctoral fellowships will be provided to those who are willing to do research work after doing PhD. Department is in the process of developing infrastructure for starting research work in the field of Natural product, Organic synthesis, Organometallic Chemistry, Coordination Chemistry, Bioinorganic chemistry and Nanotechnology.
