How To Reach NIT Surathkal
The institute is located about 22 kms north of Mangalore City along the Kanyakumari Mumbai National Highway 17 (on way from Mangalore to Udupi), amid 300 acres of sylvan surroundings with the picturesque Western Ghats on the east and the sun-kissed sands of the Arabian Sea to the west.
NITK is easily accessible from all parts of the country. Being situated right on the NH 17, the Institute and Campus is very well connected by bus routes to the North and the South. Mangalore is also connected by NH 48 to Bangalore and there are over 200 luxury buses plying daily between Mangalore and Bangalore. Most of the Government as well Private buses plying from Mangalore and other places to Udupi, provide a stop at NITK Guest House on NH 17. After alighting at the guest house stop, please contact the helpdesk at the Applied Mechanics department or Dr. G.S.Dwarakish, Chairman of Reception Co-ordination committee (Mob. 9448775999).
If you are coming to Surathkal by Train
Surathkal, on the Konkan Railway (linking Mumbai to Kanyakumari), is the nearest rail station and is a stopover for most trains passing through Konkan Railway. While Surathkal and Kankanady Junction are the closest alighting points for visitors coming by train from the North; Mangalore Central is the Terminus for many trains from South India.
If you are coming by bus to Surathkal
NIT Suratkal is right by the side of NH-17. Should be around 20-25 km from Mangalore. Get on any bus that goes to Udupi. You can get down in front of NIT itself; it is a couple of KM after the town of Suratkal.
If you are coming to Surathkal by Flight
The Mangalore airport (Bajpe) is just about 20 kms from the Campus and there are flights to Mumbai, Cochin, Calicut, Goa and Bangalore everyday, with connections to the rest of the country. Direct International flights are available to Muscat, Dubai and Doha.
