Computer Support Group
The sterling hallmark of this campus is the OCTAGON – Computer Center. This center serves the campus-wide LAN in close association with the user departments. This LAN caters to totally 4000 users across the campus (1600 users at the same time) and has a 10 Gbps fiber optic backbone. It also acts as a resource centre to supplement classroom instructions with laboratory sessions.
The OCTAGON & Annex building accommodates the central computing facilities, it has a server room with 25 high-end servers and there are 7 laboratories, 5 labs in Octagon building and 2 labs in the Annex building with totally 400 high-end computers.
It has a Printer room equipped with four high-speed A4 and A3 Network Laser Printers (Mono and Color) which can print upto 50 pages per minute (PPM); a Library for software and manuals; Conference and Seminar facilities; a CAD/CAM Centre with 22 high-end workstations and an in-house maintenance facilities.
The centre is maintained by the Computer Support Group (CSG).
Octagon is kept open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, throughout the year, also has centralized 2 x 60 kVA redundant Uninterrupted Power Supply with 200 kVA standby Power Generators and Central Air Conditioning.
NITT is connected to the Internet via 45 Mbps (1:1) leased line from Software Technology Park of India (STPi) and via 100 Mbps leased line from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) under National Mission on Education through Information & Communication Technology (NME-ICT). Currently work is in progress for providing 1Gbps connectivity by National Informatics Centre (NIC) using Railnet as a part of National Knowledge Network (NKN).
The college has a modern central library with more than one lakh documents consisting of technical books, reports, standards and back volumes of journals. The library subscribes to 179 periodicals (print) plus 1000+ (e-Journals) besides a holding of 15943 bound volumes of journals (back numbers). The library also contains 15,000 books in the book bank.
Besides the central library, each department has its own library. The open access system is observed in the library.
Our Institute is holding membership with British Council Library, Chennai. We are also holding membership with DELNET, New Delhi for Interlibrary loan.
The CD-ROM workstation and the Audio visual section are recent additions to the library.

To cater to the needs of the students and other residents, the institute has a shopping complex within its premises. The students can get almost everything they need under the sun here.
An excellent store housing all sorts of goods be it stationeries or groceries.
State Bank Of India (NIT branch) is located inside the campus. It is fully computerized and is giving an exhaustive service to NITT.
Two ATMs has been installed in the campus one in the Shopping Complex and other one near Barn Hall.
A fully functional Post Office is located in the Shopping Complex with Speed Post facility
A provider of high quality stationery goods.
The Transport Section is managed by a Transport Committee consisting of teaching non-teaching staff.
Campus Communication Services
Campus Communication Services (CCS) is a service unit of the E.C.E. department that takes care of the communication needs of the campus residents. Telephone facilities have been provided in the academic departments, administrative office, hostels and in the residences. An ALCATEL 4300/S EPABX has been installed in the administrative building. This acts as the backbone for all our communication needs. The institute can be contacted through 10 dedicated DoT lines. Another set of 5 dedicated lines enables Direct Inward Dialing (D.I.D). Through D.I.D. any extension number can be contacted without routing the call through the operator.
In addition, 2 STD booths are being operated round the clock for use by the staff and students. One more STD booth has been commissioned in Opal hostel for use by the girl students. CCS is responsible for the purchase, installation and maintenance of EPABX and telephone instruments.
CCS also provides Satellite Telecast channels to the residents on the campus. Currently, popular channels on news, sports and entertainment in Tamil, English, Hindi, Telugu and Malayalam are telecast through cable. Telecast activities are controlled and monitored from a Master Control Room. Dedicated staff attend to the installation and maintenance of equipment. All the satellite channels are telecast round the clock.
The Security department comprises the Security Officer , three Sergeants and 41 security guards. The guards are divided into three sections and allotted duties round the clock in three shifts on rotation basis. One Sergeant is posted in each shift to supervise the security guards. Most of the security guards are retired defense service personnel. Their supreme duty is to look after the assets of the Institution besides maintaining law and order on the campus.
Recently two barriers have been installed, one near the college main gate and the other near quarters gate. Security Guards are posted round the clock in these two points. The in-coming and out-going vehicles are thoroughly checked and entries are made in registers.
To maintain strict discipline and good turn-out, parades are conducted every week. All guards are issued livery like uniforms, shoes, caps, belts, etc.
Our Institute is endowed with a beautiful swimming pool of 25 metre length. It caters to the students, faculty, and other residents of the campus.
The pool is maintained by a group of dedicated workers and managed by two coaches. All those who want to use the pool on regular basis must duly register themselves in the Office of the Physical Education Department. They must also strictly abide by the rules in force.
The swimming pool has three parts. There is a very shallow pool for the tiny tots. There is a wading pool for the learners. A deeper pool with a maximum depth of 8 feet is available for the more experienced swimmers and to those who train for competitions.
The department provides and maintains the sports facilities required by the students and the staff.
The Sports Centre Which Is The Hub Of Sports Activities Was Inaugurated 1999.
The Sports Centre Is A Multi-Facility Multi-Disciplinary Sports Complex Aimed At Developing Well-Rounded Personalities Of Students. The Building Has An Indoor Stadium With Two Shuttle Courts And A Fitness Centre. The Construction Of The Sports Centre Has Been Carried Out By The State P.W.D. At A Cost Of Rs. 97 Lakhs.
The Director Has Ordered Two More Indoor Stadiums Which Can Accommodate Two Shuttle Courts As Well As A Couple Of Table Tennis Tables In The Student Hostel Avenue.
The Fitness Centre Which Also Has A Wooden Flooring Houses Many Exercise Machines Such As Multi-Station Gym, Tread Mill, Stairs, Air Walker, Rowing Machine, Exercycle And So On. These Are Used By The Students, Staff And Other Residents Of The Campus.
