Tamil Nadu is a state in the southernmost part of Indian Peninsula. Chennai is the capital and the largest city of the Tamil Nadu. The state shares its border with Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Tamil Nadu is the most literate state of the country. According to the Census 2001-2011, the state has performed well in term of literacy growth. As per Census 2011, the literacy rate of Tamil Nadu has seen upward trend and is 80.09 percentage. The literacy rate of female is 73.44 % while the rate of male literacy is 86.77 %. In 2001 the literacy rate was 73.45 percentage out of which 82.42 was male literacy rate and 63.43 female literacy rate.
