Banaras Hindu University (BHU) was established in 1916 and is situated in the holy city of Varanasi. BHU was founded by the great nationalist leader, Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya. The university comprises 3 Institutes, 14 Faculties 140 Departments, 4 Interdisciplinary Centers a constituent college for women’s and 3 Constituents Schools. It has 6 centres of advanced studies, 10 departments under Special Assistance Programme and a large number of specialized Research Centers. BHU Admission Process
Admission in Banaras Hindu University is based on marks obtained in the entrance test for UG and PG programmes. For some courses, admission is based on the merit list. Students can apply for admission through University Admission Portal, i.e, http://www.bhuonline.in. It is advised to fill and submit the admission application form along with the admission fee on or before the last date. Computer Based Test (CBT) will be conducted in 115 cities across the country for admission to the various UG and PG courses. Every student need to qualify UET/PET/RET/SCS/SET entrance exam for getting admission in BHU.
BHU Schools
There are three schools of Banaras Hindu University (BHU). The list of these schools is mentioned below:
- Central Hindu Boys School – Founded on 7th July 1898 as Central Hindu College, the present C.H.S. is situated at Kamachha, spread capaciously and housed in magnificent and glorious buildings.
- Central Hindu Girls School – Central Hindu Girls School (CHGS), an integral part of BHU, is one of the oldest premier institutions of girl’s education in the city.
- Ranvir Sanskrit Vidyalaya – This is another school of BHU.

BHU Affiliated Colleges
There are four colleges affiliated with Banaras Hindu University (BHU). The list for the same is given below:
- Arya Mahila P.G. College – Arya Mahila P.G. College was founded and is managed by Shri Arya Mahila Hitakarini Mahaparishad. It was established in 1956 by the efforts of Smt. Vidya Devi Ji, disciple of Shri Gyananand Maharaj Ji.
- D.A.V. Degree College – This college is also affiliated with BHU.
- Vasant Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Kamachha – Vasant Kanya Mahavidyalaya (V.K.M.) was inaugurated on the 10th July 1954 by Dr C.P. Ramaswamy Iyer, the then Vice-Chancellor of the Banaras Hindu University and has successfully celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 2004-2005.
- Vasant College for Women – Vasanta College for Women is one of the oldest higher education institutions of Varanasi, established in 1913. It was established by Dr Annie Besant to give a boost to women education beginning with just eight students.
