Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) was founded on July 22, 1970. It is located in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India. HPU offers Under Graduate, Post Graduate, Diploma, PG Diploma, M.Phil. and PhD programmes. The University also offers 31 University Teaching Departments under the 13 faculties namely Social Sciences, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Arts & Languages, Performing & Visual Arts, Education, Commerce & Management, Law, Engineering & Technology, etc. There are a total of ten study centres on the main campus. HPU Admission Process
Admission to Himachal Pradesh University shall be made based on performance in the Entrance Test and the previous academic records of the candidate. 50% weightage each is given to the entrance test and previous academic record of the candidate respectively. For some courses, admission is done through the marks obtained in the qualifying examination. The application for admission is made available online on the official website. Interested candidates are advised to submit the application form in the prescribed form along with the application fees on or before the last date. No applications shall be accepted under any circumstances.

- International Centre for Distance Education and Open Learning (ICDEOL) – The Himachal Pradesh University established in the year 1970 soon established the Directorate of Correspondence Course(s) in the year 1971.
- Department of Evening Studies – The first and only educational institution of its kind in Himachal Pradesh, the Department of Evening Studies was conceptualized in 1961 and was established in July 1962 as the Panjab University Evening College.
- HPU Business School – HPUBS was formerly known as an Institute of Management Studies and is an autonomous Institute since 1995 prior to this, it was established as a department of Management Studies at the inception of this University.
- University Institute of IT – University Institute of Information Technology (UIIT) Shimla is a premier institution of excellence in Computer Science and Information Technology. From the current session, UIIT is also introducing three new courses of B. Tech. in Civil, Electrical and Electronics & Communication Engineering.
- HPU College of Business Studies -HPU College of Business Studies was established in the year 1995. The institution is known as one of the best institutions in the Country in disseminating education in Business Administration as well as Computer Application Courses at the graduate level.
- University Institute of Legal Studies – The University Institute of Legal Studies( UILS ) was established in the year 2005 and has been instrumental in providing quality education and is now a well-acclaimed name in the legal education system, situated in Chaura Maidan, the prime locality of Shimla.
- Institute of Tribal Studies – The Institute of Tribal Studies was established as the 18th TRI in India, located on HP University premises.
- Institute of Vocational Studies – This Institute offers a wide variety of Tourism and Hospitality courses like a master’ in Tourism Administration, a Bachelor’s in Hotel Management and Five Year Integrated Course in Tourism Administration besides PhD in Tourism.
