Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University was initially established as the University of Ajmer on August 01, 1987. The name was later changed in the year 1996 and its jurisdiction was extended to the entire state of Rajasthan. The campus of the university is located near the village of Ghoongra, that is seven kilometres from the city of Ajmer. The courses offered in the university are recognised by University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi as well as AICTE, DST, DCE. Admission is offered to students in various Graduate / Post Graduate / Diploma & Certificate as well as M.Phil. and PhD programmes

Admission Process in MDSU
The applications are released in online mode for the process of admission. A total of 3,18,325 students were registered for various courses during the 2018-2019 season. Reservation and relaxation in the process of admission is provided as per norms provided by the government of Rajasthan. Admission to postgraduate courses is offered to those students who have completed the (10+2+3) examination procedure. Candidates who are called for admission are required to produce all the necessary documents for verification in original along with transfer certificate if required. Admissions are made on the basis of availability of seats and merit.
Scholarship at MDSU
The details about scholarship / financial assistance procedures provided by the university to the eligible candidates who are part of various programmes offered are mentioned below
Research Fellowships
- University Fellowships: One University fellowship worth a sum of Rs 6000 is provided to the research student in every faculty that is based on university campus
- Departmental Fellowships: One fellowship worth a sum of Rs 5000 is offered to research students in each of the teaching departments of the university
UG & PG Programmes
- Need cum merit scholarship: Financial assistance is provided to those students who have a weak financial background and have good academic score. The scholarship is valid for all UG and PG courses
- Professional faculty fund fellowship: One scholarship amounting to Rs 250 is provided for a period of 12 months to the merit-based students in the advanced programmes offered by the university
- Student Assistantship: The university provides an opportunity for students those who are willing to work in the administrative department to earn while they learn
- Scholarships to SC/ST/OBC/PwD: Scholarship to the students belonging to this category is provided on the basis of terms and conditions provided by social and justice department, government of Rajasthan
