Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU)

Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) – was established under the South Gujarat University Act, 1965 passed by the Gujarat State Legislative Assembly. The University started functioning in the academic year 1966. It was incorporated as a University on May 23, 1967. In 1968 VNSGU was recognized by the University Grant Commission (UGC). The university was renamed Veer Narmad South Gujarat University in 2004. The University’s mandate is to meet the development need of the seven districts and two union territories in the region.

The basic objective of the University as envisaged by the University Act is UG and PG teaching, maintaining high standards, degree award to the candidates successful in their respective exams, promotion of research and extension activities relevant to the requirements of the region in accordance with the interest of the national building. VNSGU campus is spread over 210 acres of land. The central library of the university with over 1.97 lakh books, 779 journals, 650 e-books, 39 e-journals and 5000 UGC Infonet online tiles.

Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU)

The University jurisdiction is extended to the seven districts of Navasari, Dangs, Surat, Bharuch and Tapi and the union territory of Daman and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. There are 25 PG departments/institutes on the University campus. VNSGU offers 95 programmes with multiple specializations including 19 M.Phil and 19 PhD programmes in the University. Currently, there are two lakh students enrolled in various courses in the university including affiliated colleges. The University has 34 Government, 104 Post Teaching Centre (Subject wise) attached to the affiliated colleges, 59 Grant-in-aid and 190 Self-financed colleges.
